History:

Already in the beginning of the 21st century first plans for the construction of a ski flying hill in Finland came up. One of the possible candidates is the winter sports area around Suomuntuturi hill near Kemijärvi in Lapland. Detailed planning started in December 2007, but the realization was still not been decided yet.
The other possible locations for a ski flying hill are Aavasaksa near Ylitornio, Tahkovuori near Nilsiä, as well as Sotkamo near Vuokatti. With a construction cost of around 13m Euro Suomu seems to be the most likely alternative, together with much more expensive, canopied Aavasaksa ski jumping complex (30-40m Euro).
