History:

In 1985, in response to growing interest in ski jumping in the region, a ski jumping complex was built in Somerharju (Luumäki), consisting of three hills: K27, K15, and K8. The goal was to provide training and competition opportunities for various age groups and skill levels. This marked the beginning of a new era in the local ski jumping community. Among the active athletes of that period were Antti Lamminpää, Ismo and Timo Lamminpää, as well as Daniel Karjalainen from the LuPo club, who set the hill record on the K27 at 29.5 meters during the traditional New Year’s Eve competition. In the early years, these events attracted up to 700 spectators.
It is also worth noting that the K27 hill was used not only by younger athletes but also by older sports enthusiasts. One example is Martti Lamminpää, who continued ski jumping in Somerharju until the age of 81, demonstrating the lasting significance of this complex for the local community.
Today, the ski jumps in Somerharju are no longer in active use, but their history remains an important part of the sporting heritage of the Luumäki region.
