History:

In the 1950s and 1960s, the Luumäki region experienced a boom in interest in ski jumping, which led to the construction of several ski jumps in places such as Somerharju, Haimila, and Luotola. The ski jumping hill in Jurvala (Luumäki) was a small facility with a K-point of 17. According to available information, it was built after World War II, probably in the 1940s, and was actively used by the local community until the 1960s. The hill was not equipped with plastic matting, which limited its use to the winter season. Eventually, it was dismantled.
Today, the area where the Jurvala ski jump once stood is used for other recreational purposes. In 2023, local authorities held a public consultation regarding the construction of fitness stairs (kuntoportaat) at various locations, including the former ski jump site. The survey results showed that many residents supported the idea of using the area for new sports facilities, indicating its continued significance to the local community. Although the ski jump in Jurvala is no longer in use, its history remains an important part of Luumäki's sporting heritage.
In addition to the main K17 hill, there were also smaller training hills in Jurvala that served local ski jumping enthusiasts. The memories of residents and local historical sources point to an active sporting life in that period.
