History:

The Ukonniemi ski jump in Imatra, Finland, was built in 1938 and for many years was the largest and most important facility of its kind in the South Karelia (Etelä-Karjala) region. Its K-point was 50, and the hill record—50.5 meters—was set by Olavi Kuronen and Veikko Salmenranta. Kuronen was, among other things, the Finnish national distance record holder; in 1950 he jumped 90 meters at Puijo in Kuopio. That same year, he also became U.S. national champion and represented Finland at the World Championships (1950) and the Olympic Winter Games (1952).
The ski jump hosted numerous competitions, including events held in connection with the Finnish Cross-Country Skiing Championships in 1939 and 1951, as well as many national and regional ski jumping contests. It was also the home venue for top Finnish athletes such as Pentti Ryöppy, Tapani Kontula, Niilo Nikunen, and Olavi Sihvonen. Nikunen and Sihvonen were Nordic combined skiers who represented Finland at the Winter Olympics—Nikunen in 1936 and Sihvonen in 1948.
In the 1960s, the ski jump was dismantled. Next to it was a smaller, natural K24 hill used for training younger jumpers.
Today, the site of the former ski jump is home to Ukonniemi Stadium, a multifunctional sports facility used in summer for pesäpallo (Finnish baseball) and in winter as a skiing stadium.
