In 1929, when Korea was a Japanese protectorate, mountain climber and traveler Tatsuo Iiyama opened a ski resort at 900 m altitude on the Sambang Mountain (now North Korea) as part of the public service of the Railway Office. As it can be seen in the picture, there was also a ski jump, whose further history is unknown. Although the resort no longer exists, there is still a Sambang train station that can be reached from the PRK capital, Pyongyang.
