History:

Already in 1913 Ruapehu Ski Club was founded a brought skiing activities to New Zealand's highest Volcano (2797 m) on the North Isle.
In early 1930's Norwegian ski guide Olaf Pedersen started ski jumping near the Rock Garden chairlift at Whakapapa on a hill called "Olaf's Jump". The ski jump at Mount Ruapehu was built in 1933.
In August 1936 the ski jump at Mount Ruapehu was visited by Colin Wyatt, who was British ski jumping champion. In this time he jumped there about 22.9 metres (75 ft), which as the longest ski jump ever made in New Zealand.
Usually at Mount Ruapehu Ski Jump the athletes from Ruapehu Ski Club trained. Some times Ruapehu Ski Club championships in ski jumping were held. In August 1938 this event was judged by Ernst Skadarasy from Austria. After the competition he made a demonstration jump in which he jumped about 21.3 metres (70 ft). Probably last event on Mount Ruapehu Ski Jump were the club championships in August 1940.
