History:

The Gründelschanze K23 was built in the mid 1920’s, but after 1945 it had to be removed, because of the construction of an ice stadium in the outrun and was set up again 100 m away. The inrun tower was made of wood (photo). In 1968 it was destroyed, because it was too much dilapidated and reconstructed in 1972 with a steel-wood-construction and plastic mattings in the same size (K23). Competitions took place until 1989, but then the ice stadium was modernized and need service houses and parking space in the outrun. That’s why ski jumping had stopped and in 2004 the jump was finally totally removed.
By the way it has to be noticed that ski jumping in the area of Altenberg/Geising did no longer get support by the GDR sports leading, because of the concentration of the performance centres of sledge and biathlon sports in this area. Children and teenagers interested in sports were pushed into these sports and got the normal support and help by the state.
