History:
The beginning of ski jumping in the small Saxonian village Forchheim was in 1973, when people jumped on a self-constructed small snow jump in winter time at Gründelwald, a federal forest area. Leaded by section chairman Dr. Eckert and the very dedicated trainer Imfried Hiekel together with his wife Gisela the winter sports section of SG Forchheim was developed and a small ski jumping hill was constructed fulfilling all constructive and profile standards of that time. But all this was only possible, since the club got the status of a districtal training centre of Nordic combination by DTSB in middle 1970’s. By the way, the plastic mattings for the jump were manually transported with a truck from Neuhausen, since ski jumping there was declining. But also at Forchheim enthusiasm wasn’t very long-lasting, because unfortunately already in 1981 ski jumping activities ended, since no appropriate coaches were found for leading the section after the retiring of both above listed sportsmen. Finally in 1991 the jumps were officially removed and the area planated.
