History:

The Finsteberg was the center of ski jumping at Reiterswiesen, a village belonging to Bad Kissingen. Today only an information board reminds of the former ski jumps there.
In fall 1948 Philipp Dees constructed the Finsterbergschanze, which was inaugurated on 1949-03-15. Since it didn't allow the distances expected, it was already replaced in 1950 by a new ski jumping hill with a higher wooden tower and a smaller junior jump. In the following years club championships and local competitions were hosted there.
Snowless winters in 1960's provoked a decline in interest in ski jumping. After a storm collapsed the ski jumps on 1968-03-16, they were completely removed short time later. This meant the final end of ski jumping activities in Reiterswiesen and Bad Kissingen.
