History:

The ski jump hill in Dannemora was certainly one of the most unique hills in the world - it was located on the grounds of... a prison. The first makeshift ski jump was built at the Clinton Correctional Facility (the largest maximum security prison in New York State) in 1951. Ski jumping was such a popular way of spending time for convicts that in 1969 a more durable construction of the ski jump was erected there. The inrun profile was quite breakneck, and chicken feed bags were used for its construction. The authorities of the facility dismantled the jump in the early 1990s, explaining it for safety reasons.
