History:

The ski jump known as Norfolk Hill (now defunct) was located on Route 44, directly across from the Blackberry River Inn. In February 1934, it was featured in a Fox Movietone newsreel, showing a group of jumpers descending simultaneously while carrying American flags. The New York Times described the jump as “one of the most beautiful in the country.”
On February 17, 1934, a competition organized by the Norfolk Outing Club took place, combining a 17-kilometer cross-country ski race with ski jumping held the following day. The event attracted a crowd of 2,000 spectators. Double and even triple jumps were performed, including one by the Satre brothers: Paul Ottar, Olaf, and Karl Magnus. Among the most notable participants were Ole Hegge, silver medalist in the 18 km cross-country race at the 1928 Olympic Games, Harald Sorensen of Norfolk, CT, Sigurd Jorgensen, and Nick Nylund.
A year later, Sorensen won top honors with jumps of 168 and 170 feet (approx. 51–52 m) on the impressive Norfolk Hill.
