Since the reconstruction of Paradiskullen in 1992 – in 1961 it was also the first plastic covered hill of Sweden – Örnsköldsvik has worked its way up as Sweden’s centre of ski jumping and combination. The ski high school Nolaskolen is the only one in Sweden at which jumpers get trained. That’s why nearly all popular recent Swedish ski jumpers are mebers of the local ski club Friska Viljor and were trained at this high school.
In 1980 the Junior WSC took place on Paradiskullen K70 at that time and from 1985 to 1994 Örnsköldsvik was host of six World Cup competitions.
Since both larger hills were an obstacle for the construction of a new important railway track, they had to be removed in 2004 and now only the K90 hill is reconstructed about 40 m aside. But instead before at the backside of the mountain, a new ski jumping facility with 4 jumping hills was built and opened in 2004, because ski jumping shouldn’t stop completely. The opening of the new K90 ski jumping hill took place in October 2005.
