On January 10, 1932 the new ski jump of SC Villars at Bretaye, planned by architect A.-O. Badrutt from St. Moritz, was opened. The ski jumping hill was one of the greatest of its time and allowed widths of 70 to 90 m. On the day of the ceremonial opening only a first hill record of 67 by Badrutt himself was possible, because of strong winds from the back.
Then on January 19, 1933 the Norwegian Sigmund Ruud jumped on 84 m and improved the old world record with 2 meters. But already on February 26 the young Henri Ruchet from Villars landed 87 m at an unofficial competition, but the width was not counted as an official world record. At that time the Bretaye ski jumping hill gained much attention, but today it is dilapidated already a long time.
