History:

Berástegui (Berastegi) is the site of the first documented skiing competition in Spain.
On 4 April 1910, on one of the slopes near the village of Berastegi (Gipuzkoa), members of Ski Club Tolosano together with Norwegian workers of the Mustad factory piled up snow to form a simple take-off on a natural hillside. On this improvised jump, a regional ski jumping contest was held, considered the first skiing event in the country.
The competition was divided into a category for Norwegians and one for local athletes. In the Norwegian group, Hafdan Tollerud won with the longest confirmed jump of 12 m, ahead of Gustav Aas (11 m) and Emil Pettersen (10.5 m). Among the Basques, Jenaro Ruiz de Arcaute claimed victory, although the sources do not record the distance of his jump.
