History:

The Mellia ski jumping complex is located on a slope above the church in Rissa, in the municipality of Indre Fosen. The facility was built around 1970 as the main training site for the Fjellørnen IL ski club and originally consisted of several hills of different sizes, serving as an important training base for the entire Fosen region. In the 1970s and 1980s, Mellia was used intensively. For many young jumpers from Rissa, it was their first introduction to the sport, and the complex played a significant role in developing future coaches and sports officials associated with ski jumping in Trøndelag. The largest hill, with a K-point of 50, had its record set at 54 metres by Jan Henrik Trøen.
From the early 1990s, ski jumping activity within Fjellørnen IL gradually declined, which also led to the abandonment of the Mellia hills. Over the following years, the facility became overgrown and fell out of use, and the former training centre disappeared from the local sporting landscape. The situation changed only in 2019–2020, when the upcoming 100th anniversary of the club and the constraints of the pandemic became an impulse to revive the site. Fjellørnen IL decided to carry out a jubilee project aimed at fully restoring the old complex. Local residents, parents of young athletes and pupils from the nearby school were involved in clearing vegetation, reopening access routes and completing the first stages of renovation. The project received support from regional ski associations, the municipality of Indre Fosen and local sponsors, which made it possible to install new lighting, restore the profiles of the two largest hills and modernize the smaller ones.
Since the 2020/21 season, Mellia has once again been functioning as a local ski jumping centre. The hills are regularly prepared in winter, club training sessions are held here, along with open sessions for children and small evening competitions. The facility is also used by the school in Rissa during ski activity days, and the area around the hills serves as a small park for various winter activities.
