In local sources, the ski jump was known as Espebakken, located “at Flore, with the landing hill (slette) towards Sindre.” The facility belonged to Markane Idrettslag, a sports club that has developed Nordic skiing disciplines – cross-country, Nordic combined, and ski jumping – in the area since the early 20th century.
In February 1951, district competitions for boys (krinshovurenn for gutar) were held in Markane, organized by Markane IL. In March 1954, the venue hosted the main district championships (Hovudkrinsrenn), won by Pål Seljeset from Hornindal, who set a hill record of 44.5 metres. In the Nordic combined, Reidar Tvinnereim from Hardbagg IL took the victory, while Per Christian Fænn from Markane received the “Damenes pokal” as the best local athlete. Around 50 jumpers took part in the competition.
According to local recollections, the hill record was “slightly over 40 metres.” The exact date of construction and demolition is unknown, but ski jumping traditions in Markane continued on other hills in later decades (including Sætren Hoppbakken in Stryn, K50, built in 1985).
The Markane (Espebakken) hill no longer exists, and no visible remains can be found in the terrain today.
