Ullsheim is part of the large Markane IL ski complex, located about 16 km from Stryn at an altitude of around 350 metres above sea level. Construction of the centre began in 1977 with a 3-kilometre illuminated cross-country ski trail, and in 1982 a clubhouse with changing rooms was built. Over time, Ullsheim was expanded to the standard of a county-level cross-country and biathlon centre, with trails meeting FIS requirements and a modern biathlon stadium. In 1996, the complex hosted the cross-country part of the Norwegian Nordic Ski Championships.
In the southern part of the stadium, a skileik area (for playful skiing activities) was established, featuring small training ski jumps mainly intended for children and youth, used during local club events. Markane IL organizes, among others, club championships in classic cross-country skiing, slalom, and ski jumping here. Larger competitions in cross-country skiing and biathlon – including the Norwegian Biathlon Championships and several rounds of the Norgescup and IBU Regional Event – take place at the cross-country and biathlon stadium.
