History:

Pillarguribakken was a ski jumping hill of Otta Idrettslag, located on a forested slope between the settlement of Hjellum and the summit of Pillarguritoppen, above the town of Otta in the municipality of Sel (Innlandet). The name of the hill was chosen through a naming contest and referred to the local symbol Prillar-Guri, associated with the legend of the Battle of Kringen. Intended as a kind of successor to Tholibakken, the hill was completed in 1952, and in the year of its opening the first – and as it later turned out, the only – competition was held here, during which Hans A. Hågensen from Fåberg set the hill record with a jump of 52.5 metres. According to club accounts and local historical sources, the event attracted around 600–700 spectators, indicating that the opening competition was a significant sporting occasion in Otta. For unknown reasons, the hill was never again used for official events and gradually fell into disuse and decay. By the 1970s, as stated in Otta Idrettslag’s anniversary booklet, the wooden inrun structure had completely rotted away and was dismantled by club members Kurt Johanson and Ivar Bredan. The hill no longer exists – only traces of the landing slope remain on the mountainside.
