History:
The Skjærhaugen ski jumping hill near Øverbygd in today's Målselv municipality was constructed in 1925 as a natural ski jump and was equipped with an inrun tower and enlarged in 1928.
Until 1970 the hill had been used without any major conversions, which is why the hill record of 45.5 meters by Arne Sæther from Tromsø from 1938 stood for long.
Then the hill was finally modernized and enlarged in 1970. At the North-Norwegian Hovedlandsrennet in 1972 Tom Sandberg set up the new hill record of 57.5 meters. Øverbygd was home to a number of good jumpers during that period, who even stood jumps for more than 60 meters during training. However, interest in ski jumping then rapidly declined and in 1985 the already ramshackle ski jumping facility with its K55, K40 and K15 hills had to be closed.
Based on the initiative by Ivar Solberg, ski jumping activities and the Skjærhaugen ski jumping facility were revived in 2005. During subsequent years, the hills were steadily updated and further junior hills were added. Finally, in 2013 the HS70 and HS45 hills were profoundly modernized and equipped with floodlights. In 2019, an application for public funds to support plastic covering of the four smallest hills was submitted, worth a total of 1.1m NOK (ca. 100,00 Euros). The works were finally carried out in 2022.
