History:
Nesbakken was the largest ski jumping hill in Stokmarknes on the island of Hadseløya (Nordland). The facility belonged to the club Stokmarknes IL and was located on a forested slope above the town, in the area of the Vollan viewpoint. Today, the trace of the former inrun and landing slope is still visible in the terrain, but the hill itself has been dismantled – the area is now used, among other things, as part of the Vesterålen Bike Park project, whose trails end near the historic “Nesbakken” ski jump.
Only little information about it has been preserved. It is known that the hill was active in the late 1940s and early 1950s, and that in later documents of Nordland Skikrets it appears as “Nesbakken – nedlagt,” meaning a facility taken out of use. The hill record of 68.5 m was set by the Norwegian Nordic combined athlete Kjetil (Ketil) Mårdalen from Telemark. Various accounts give different dates for this jump (the archive lists 27 March 1949, while another description mentions the early 1950s).
