History:
Mežezers was the largest of the three known ski jumping facilities in the vicinity of Pļaviņas. In material on the history of Latvian ski jumping, it is noted that during the Soviet era a “70-metre” ski jumping hill operated in Pļaviņas (Mežezers), confirming the importance of the site within the regional winter sports infrastructure of that time. The hill no longer exists today; only traces of its former location remain.
The record of the Mežezers ski jumping hill is associated with Tālis Pāvuliņš, one of the leading Latvian ski jumpers of the Soviet era (including multiple titles as champion of the Latvian SSR), who in 1972 set the Latvian national record of 102 metres in Bakuriani during a USSR Cup competition.
