History:
Pellizzano is one of the most important Italian training centres for ski jumping and Nordic combined. The local tradition of these disciplines dates back to 1948, when local enthusiasts built the first wooden ski jump, measuring around 50–55 metres. In the same year it hosted its inaugural competition, won by Igino Rizzi, and one year later the Sci Pellizzano club was founded, led successively by members of the Bontempelli family. During the 1960s and 1970s, under the presidency of Danilo Bontempelli, ski jumping in Pellizzano experienced its greatest flourishing – youth competitions were held regularly and local athletes reached the national teams. The highlight of that era was the 1977 Italian Youth Championships. After that event the club ceased its activity and the ski jumps gradually fell into disrepair.
A new stage began with the creation of Sci Club Monte Giner, which in the 1980s took the initiative to rebuild the facilities. The old K30 and K50 hills were modernised, including reconstructed inruns that restored their full functionality. In 1984 the venue hosted its first nationwide competition, followed by further Italian youth championships in 1986 and 1989. During this period the centre was granted official training-centre status within the FISI structure.
A major breakthrough came with the construction of the new plastic-covered HS38 Val di Sole hill, opened in the early 1990s. Its first summer competition was held in 1991, enabling year-round training for new generations of jumpers. In 2004 the complex was expanded with a smaller training hill, HS21, and the landing area of HS38 was modernised. These developments turned Pellizzano into one of Italy’s leading youth ski-jumping centres, regularly hosting national competitions, summer and winter editions of the Italian Cup, and international junior events. One of the most notable athletes to emerge from the local club is Olympian Davide Bresadola.
In recent years the complex has undergone further upgrades, including the reconstruction of HS38 with a new coaches’ platform and the start of construction of the larger HS66 hill. Although the development project has sparked local debate, the HS21 and HS38 hills continue to be used extensively.
