Akureyri is one of the few places in Iceland where ski jumping has developed over the decades.
In the 1930s and 1940s, jumps on the Miðhúsaklöppum slope were noted and in 1940 the Icelandic championship was held there. Many years later, the construction of small training ski jumps was planned there, as a newspaper mentioned in 1975. Probably it never happened.
