At Hammerunterwiesenthal, a small town located near Oberwiesenthal, the first ski jump was existing from middle 1930’s on at Heßgrind and in use until early 1970’s.
In 1960’s the VEB supported the construction of Pionierschanze, on which jumps on up to 18 meters were possible. But in middle 1980’s the ski jumping activities finally ended.
