History:

The Brockenweg ski jumps in Braunlage are among the oldest and most distinguished facilities in the Harz region. The history of this site dates back to 1909, when the first ski jump was built along Brockenweg and inaugurated during the German Championships in ski jumping. The competition, watched by several thousand spectators, produced the first official hill record of 29 metres. Over the following decades the ski jump was expanded and modernised, becoming one of the central venues for ski jumping in the Harz. Numerous regional competitions, the Harz Championships and the ski jumping events of the German Nordic Combined Championships were held here. After the construction of the larger Wurmbergschanze on the summit of Wurmberg in 1922, Brockenweg increasingly took on the role of a local and training hill, although competitions of nationwide significance were still hosted there. The final stage of the historic development of the site was the large K70 hill, used until 1993 and only dismantled in 2018.
The modern character of the complex is defined by the plastic-matted ski jumps built in 1982: K58 and K40, which since their inauguration have served as the year-round training base of WSV Braunlage. In 1999 they were supplemented by two small children’s jumps, K14 and K6/K7, creating a complete set of facilities for athletes of all age groups. Over the years, many regional and national competitions have been held at Brockenweg, including the German Senior Championships in 2014 and the Open Lower Saxony Championships in 2019. The site has also made its mark with impressive records — most notably Jörg Büttner’s 75-metre jump in 1993 on the now-defunct K70, as well as numerous summer and winter records on K58 and K40 set by leading regional athletes and nationally recognised junior jumpers.
After the demolition of the Wurmbergschanze in 2014, Brockenwegschanzen became the last active ski jumping complex in all of Lower Saxony. Since then, the WSV Braunlage club has been intensively pursuing the construction of a new large HS 117 hill and the creation of the multifunctional “Schanzen- und Eventarena Braunlage”. Despite major crowdfunding campaigns and wide presentation in local media, the project remains at the planning stage, with no construction work yet begun. Nevertheless, the Brockenweg complex continues to be actively used: regular training sessions take place, and young jumpers keep setting new records on the children’s hills.

Umbauprojekt

Hill records

The table of hill records of K58 was also not available on the old website, only on the website of WSV Brotterode.
However, I have now also added these tables here!
