The Schanze am Widdumberg in Weitnau was a small ski jumping hill located on the northern slope of the Widdumberg. The first hill with an inrun tower was built by the club TV Weitnau in 1952, but it was destroyed by strong winds already in 1957. In 1962 a new structure was erected on the same slope, designed with the involvement of Heini Klopfer – a well-known ski jumper and ski jump architect, co-creator of the first ski flying hill in Oberstdorf. During construction the landing slope was deepened and extended, and the inrun tower was built according to Klopfer’s sketch. The hill record was 33 m. TV Weitnau organized its own “ski days”, two youth championships and one Flachlandmeisterschaft of the Allgäu Ski Association in Nordic combined on the hill, and several of the club’s juniors won regional titles in this discipline. In later years, the area around the Widdumberg was transformed into a sports complex with a ski lift and tennis courts; ski jumping is no longer practiced there and the hill no longer exists.
