The ski jumping hill in Forbach (Baden-Württemberg), known as Friedrich-Spengler-Schanze, had a construction point of approximately 30 meters and was located in the Holdereck area. It was built in 1930, although there is information suggesting that a provisional jump had existed at the site as early as 1925. In 1927, the Ski Club Forbach was founded, and the driving force behind the hill’s construction was the local dentist and social activist Friedrich Spengler, who unfortunately passed away before its completion. The hill was later named in his honor.
The jump was actively used by the local community, and various competitions held on the surrounding meadows attracted considerable audiences. The hill record was jointly held by Edmund Mundel and Gerhard Grossmann, both of whom landed at 24 meters. Reportedly, Hubert Fritz jumped even farther but failed to land successfully.
The golden age of the Friedrich-Spengler-Schanze occurred in the 1950s and 1960s. In January 1959, Karl-Heinz Dieterle won a youth ski jumping competition held on the hill. Unfortunately, winters became increasingly snowless, alpine skiing grew in popularity, and the hill fell into disuse. Although there were plans to rebuild it in 1960, they were ultimately never realized.
