Rautela Hyppyrimäki was a small ski jumping hill of about 30 metres, located in the village of Rautela in the municipality of Somero. The hill was built no later than the beginning of 1941, on the initiative of the local Suojeluskunta (civil guard) and sports enthusiasts from Somero. A well-known local activist, Aimo Kaapo, jokingly called it “Kaapon patteri” (“Kaapo’s position”). The first recorded competition took place on 23 February 1941, with 21 jumpers participating; the longest jump – 20 metres – was made by Matti Terävä.
In the following years, the hill mainly served local residents and youth, becoming a popular site for training and winter recreation. Press recollections (“Someron Joulu”, “Paikallislehti Somero”) confirm that it was still in use in the 1950s. The hill no longer exists today.
