Already in 1927 the "Sport Institute of Finland" ("Suomen urheiluopisto") was founded at Vierumäki near Heinola as a winter sports training center. In 1950's the ski jumping hills were constructed and they are still used every winter. The 15 meter jump is situated at Ilkka canyon.
