History:

The ski jump was located in the village of Rikkilä in the former municipality of Lappee (now part of Lappeenranta). The facility stood on the western bank of the Alajoki River, on the slopes of a small hill in the Retkorpi area.
It was built in 1946–1947 as a community project by the residents of Rikkilä. The profile consisted partly of a natural hillside, complemented by a wooden inrun tower. Timber from wartime fortification works in the area was used in the construction.
According to local studies, the ski jump played an important role in the sporting life of the village – it was here that young skiers trained, later achieving success in ski jumping and Nordic combined at district-level championships. The hill record was 32.0 m and was shared by two athletes: Erkki Lyijynen and Tauno Vainikka, both of whom later became medalists at the Finnish junior championships in Nordic combined. Erkki Lyijynen also became an Olympic-level rower and competed at the 1952 Helsinki Olympic Games.
The ski jump was dismantled at the end of the 1950s due to deterioration of the structure. The slope itself, however, remained a popular downhill spot – sources emphasize that long after the demolition, the youth of Rikkilä continued to use the former ski jump as a sledding hill and a place for winter play.
