History:
Today Sljeme, which is the skiing area above of Croatia’s capital city Zagreb, is mainly famous for alpine skiing and the local “Snow Queen Trophy” World Cup race.
But on 1935-01-13 there already the first K35 ski jumping hill was opened, winner of the competition was Slovenia’s Tone Decman with 34 m, in an exhibition jump he even landed 38 m. In 1942 the first Croatian championships were organized at Sljeme, winner was Franjo Dvorzak with jumps of 28 m and 29 m ahead of Boris Merkl.
Until 1960’s competitions were taking place here in unpredictable ranges of time, but then the ski jump was torn down. One of the last jumpers on the hill was famous Joze Slibar, who tried to improve the current hill record of 41 m once again, but only landed at 35 m.
In 1970 in place of Skakaonica Medvednica a new ski lift (450 metres length) was built.
Additionally there were at Cinovnicka Livada a 10 m and near Tomislavov Dom a 12 meter ski jump in the past.
In 2007 and 2008 was planned to built there new K20 ski jump with plastic matting and other new ski jump at which it will be able to jump over 60 metres, but it wasn't built yet.
