The Schmittenwald ski jump in the Biberwier district of Schmiede was considered Austria's first flying hill by the standards of the time. According to a commemorative publication by the Ehrwald ski club, it was designed to allow flights of up to 120 meters and therefore world records. However, it was never fully completed because there were no jumpers willing to tackle it and there were not enough funds available.
