Renewal of NAZ Eisenerz starting

on 2015-05-11

With today's ground-breaking ceremony the modernization of Nordic Training Center (NAZ) in Eisenerz, Austria has started. For around 8 million Euros Erzberg ski jumping hills and the cross-country skiing center are renewed.

The Nordic Training Center (NAZ) at Eisenerz in Styria is an important education and training center for Nordic skiing youngsters in Austria and also home of ladies overall World Cup winner Daniela Iraschko-Stolz and Mario Stecher, recently resigned Olympic champion with Austria's Nordic combined team. In order to guarantee the future viability of the training center located at Ramsau near Eisenerz, which was established 33 years ago, a profound modernization was now initiated.

For a total of around 8 million Euros Erzbergschanzen are enlarged to HS 109, HS 70, HS 35 and HS 15, and changing and waxing rooms, a judges tower, a parking lot, a function room, a climbing aid as cabelway, a snowing making facility with storage pond and cooling tower, as well as the integrated cross-country stadium are newly constructed.

During today's ground-breaking ceremony ÖSV president Peter Schröcksnadel reminded of the great success athletes from the training center achieved so far: "Construction of this ski jumping facility is an important step towards an optimal training of athletes at the nordic training center in Eisenerz and this investment is already justified by the previous success, expressed by 82 medals at major sports events."

If the works can progress as planned, already during the up-coming winter season 2015-2016 first jumps from on the ski jumping hills will be possible and the new facility can be used likewise by young ski jumpers, Nordic combined and cross-country skiers. Furthermore the stadium shall be able to accommodate up to 10,000 spectators and thus enable hosting national and international competitions, such as recently the regularily held Continental Cup of Nordic combined.
