Modernization works on the ski flying hill at Bad Mitterndorf have started. With the enlargement distances around world record level shall be possible.
During the FIS Congress a few weeks ago it was decided to revolutionize the Ski Flying World competition mode. In the future ski flyers are going to compete in 4 groups of 10 in the first round and for the final score also the qualification results are going to be taken into account. This new mode is going to make its debut during the Ski Flying World Cup on January 10 and 11, 2015, in Bad Mitterndorf, Austria, where the Kulm ski flying hill is currently modernized.
In order to get a new FIS hill certificate and be able to host the Ski Flying World Championships at Tauplitz in 2016, the HS 200 flying hill has to be modernized. After long preparations the organizing committee around Hubert Neuper could achieve a consent with involved property owners and thus the conversion works could start finally today.
For around 4.2 million Euros by winter the take-off is going to be moved back by 21 meters and together with the knoll elevated by 8 meters. "The Hill Size will be 230 meters, which means flight distances around 240 meters. Even a World Record can be possible," further explains Hubert Neuper to ORF. Furthermore works on the judges tower are going to be carried out, the wind net be adapted and the general infrastructure around the hill improved, in order to persist the onrush of up to 50,000 ski flying enthusiasts.
