The Icelandic town of Siglufjörður was one of the most important places on the ski jumping map of the country. The first relatively long distances there were achieved on the slope Hvanneyrarskál. In 1939, Stefán Þórarinsson set an Icelandic record of 46.5 m there. In 1946, the record was broken there three times, and the longest distance belonged to Jónas Ásgeirsson with 54 m. Jumping at Hvanneyrarskál certainly took place during the Icelandic championships, incl. the ones in 1963 (longest jump 34 m) and 1973 (52 m).
