History:

Konsgberg has a great tradition in ski jumping, its sportsmen gained 3 Olympic Gold Medals (2x Birger Ruud and 1x P. Hugstedt), several silver and bronze and many WSC titles.

The hill of Hannibal was built by the Ruud brothers and their friends in 1926. The only costs of the hill were some dynamite to blow away a bit of mountain, the rest was voluntary work and they got the materials for free since it was for the hill. The first jump was made by Sigmund Ruud and it was about 50 meters long. Before World War II the hill record was settled at 67.5 meters by Arnholdt Kongsgård. During the glory time for jumps at Kongsberg the hill of Hannibal was the most important training centre and maybe also the most famous hill in the world after Holmenkollen at that time. From 1950’s onwards the hill has been redeveloped several times, for example for the Norwegian championships in 1978 and 1984. The last jump at Hannibalbakken was made in a Norwegian Cup event in 1996. The hill record ended with 88.5 meters of Pål Hansen. In 2004 the decision was made that hill should never be reconstructed again and so the former glorious ski jump is dilapidating more and more.
