History:

Akabira is situated in the middle of Hokkaido island and benefited of coal mining from 1918 to 1994. The local ski jumping hill was constructed in 1976 at the side of Mt. Akabira ski resort. In the year after the high school championships of Hokkaido were hosted there. Many local competitions were finally hosted until 1998 and in 2004 the skiing resort was closed down, too. Now the former lively red ski jump tower is dilapidating.
