In 1909 Bruno Bieler from Freiburg jumped 22 metres on the first „large“ hill in Oberstdorf on the “Schanze auf den Halden” which was an outstanding performance at that time. Oberstdorf was the place in Germany where ski jumping was most developed at that time.
In order to form more good jumpers it was necessary to build larger ski jumping hills. The jump in Karatsbichl got concurrency after the efforts made by the spa director Hermann Schallhammer to build in 1925/26 a better jump on Schattenberg, constructed by the architect Hans Gschwender. After several convertions the first hill record had been put up from 25 metres in 1926 (Müller from Bayrischzell) to 82 metres in 1950 (Sepp Weiler from Oberstdorf). Up until today many popular jumpers entered the list of the record holders.
In 1987 the Schattenberg ski stadium was host of Nordic Ski World Championships with enormous accounts of ten thousands of spectators.
Now the Ski-Club Oberstdorf is able to host again the Nordic WC in 2005. Therefore the jump and the ski stadium have become enlarged.
Then Ski Club Oberstdorf received the tender to host and organize the Nordic Ski World Championships in 2005. Therefore the ski jumping facility was fundamentally modernized and after the inauguration with the Four Hills Tournament competition in 2003, the “Erdinger Arena” of Oberstdorf consists of the Schattenbergschanzen K120, K90, K56, K30 and K19. Beside the ski jumping hills also infrastructure was improved by constructing two lifts and a world wide unique spectator stand which can host up to 24,000 spectators.
In spring 2011 the around 4.7m Euro expensive modernization of the normal hill has started. The 30 year old inrun tower of K90 was already torn down and will be replaced by a new one, which is moved backwards by 6.2 m. The new K95 / HS 106 ski jump shall be completed by November 2011.

Turniej
@Marco
HS 106
Its needed, because the old one wouldnt get a new fis certificate!
HS 106
That's good, but i am not sure is it needed
HS 100
