History:

The Kandersteg ski club was founded in 1904. Initially, the club members met to practice various winter sports disciplines in Eggenschwand in the south of Kandersteg, where a small jumping hill was created. In 1920 the Lötschberg ski jump was built directly at the train station. However, in 1977 this ski jump had to be removed since the bypass road for loading cars into the Lötschberg tunnel railway was created.
One year later the three jumping hills of the “Nationales Nordisches Zentrum” were opened. The costs of the construction at that time were 2.1m CHF, but they were not too much, because of the excellent summer training conditions and the many competitions on plastic mattings. From the first summer in 1979 until 1992 every year a great international ski jumping competition on plastic mattings has been hosted.
In 2010 the new-construction project "NNSK2010" got started which includes the reconstruction of the three plastic covered hills as K95 (HS 106), K67 (HS 74) and K24 (HS 27). The 5.6m CHF expensive new-construction works should be carried out by the end of 2012 and afterwards even World Cup competitions of Nordic Combined should be staged at Kandersteg.
In November financial means of 2 million CHF were declined by the Swiss sports government and meant a serious set-back for the project. The final approval of the construction works came in fall 2012. Finally, in March 2013 the Federal Office for sports approved funding of 2m Franks so that the works could start.
However, it took until June 2014 for the final financing and realization of NNSK to be ensured and announced. The re-construction of three new plastic covered ski jumping hills HS 106, HS 74 and HS 27 was be carried out between July 2014 and summer 2016 and cost around 7 million Franks. On July 21, 2014 the first dig was officially made and the construction kicked-off. The inauguration of the new "Nordic Arena" was held on August 1, 2016.
In 2018 Kandersteg hosted the Nordic Junior WSC and in 2019 OPA Ski Games followed. In autumn 2019 the construction of a HS 15 childrens hill started; it will be inaugurated with a kids competition on January 4, 2020.
