In order to create a training facility for the incoming student Dallas Clinger, who was an excellent ski jumper, the ski team of Washington State University in Pullman built a small ski jump on campus. In October 1942 the ski jump was shown in LIFE Magazine, as it was part of a fitness course for soldiers. The ski jump was renovated in 1947, but in 1950 it had to give way to the construction of the Compton Union Building (CUB). Furthermore, a larger ski jump had already been set up in 1948 as part of the development of the North-South Ski Bowl in Emida (Idaho) for the WSU ski team.
