History:

The Bilgerischanze was named after Major Georg Bilgeri (1873-1934) who was a ski pioneer at Gastein which came to Bad Hofgastein in 1920 and built up this ski jumping hill only short time later. With the Epiphany competitions and the first jump over 40 m at all in 1922 the town became famous in Austria. As one can see on the photos, this jumping hill was one of the at that time very popular three-time jumping facilities, on which three jumpers one beside the other could pass the bakken at the same time. Thereby Gastein became a very well-known winter sports facility, which it has been until today, although Bilgeri-Schanze, which was converted in 1938 and 1954 and used until 1960s, is no longer existing.
In 1984 a smaller junior hill was built on the slope of former Bilgeri-Schanze, but the last competition there was already held on January 24, 1988.
