History:

In the winter of 1930, the Spokane Ski Club began planning to build a ski jump below the 1,794 m high Mount Spokane. The construction of the hill, however, was associated with an unexpectedly large amount of effort, so that initially only a 40-meter hill could be completed by summer 1932. It was inaugurated in January 1933 together with the new ski cabin. Due to the poor infrastructure at the ski jump and the frequent fog, the annual ski jumping competition of the club was held in 1933 at the Wandermere golf course.
In 1934, they wanted to build a larger ski jumping hill at Mt. Spokane, but the Civilian Conservation Corps refused to support the construction. So it was not until after the 2nd World War that the 60 meter hill built by Helge Sather and named after him could be inaugurated with the "Esmeralda Jumping Tournament" on 11/12 December 1948. Initially, a total of three new ski jumps were built for USD 5000. The large hill was then improved and expanded again in 1949 for 15,000 dollars. At the 2nd Esmeralda Tournament in 1950 even European jumpers took part. The last major ski jumping competition on Mount Spokane took place in 1955. The ski area is also in a different location today.
