History:

In 1938, on the initiative of the ski section of the Íþróttafélag Reykjavíkur club, a 50 meter ski jumping hill was built. It was built near the older hill in Hveradalir, which previously served skiers from the capital Reykjavík. The opening of the new facility took place on March 25, 1939. Jón Þorsteinsson gave the first and the longest jump on that day with 45 m. In 1943, 1947, 1949 and 1958, the hill hosted the best jumpers of Iceland during the national championships.
In the summer of 1962, the facility was rebuilt. It allowed for 40-meter jumps later, however, the next national championships in Reykjavik were no longer in Kolviðarhól, but in the ski resort at Bláfjöll. Even in 1981, an attempt was made to reactivate the hill. The national youth championship was organized there. The longest jump (39 m) was given by Helgi Hannesson. Over time, the old hill fell into disrepair.
