History:

The history of the Eckerlochschanze began in the beginning 1920’s, when the people of Schierke had to give up the ski jump at the southern hill of the Erdbeerkopf and needed space for a new ski jump. The Eckerloch was given to them for building a ski jumping hill by the “Fürstliche Stolberg Wernigerödische Kammer” and this was one of the most famous ski jumps in the Harz in the following years.
In 1949 the ski jump was reconstructed and in 1950 the first GDR championships in ski jumping took place there. At the same time the name was changed into “Schanze der Einheit”. The political development in Germany unfortunately didn’t leave space for a unity at that time and after the construction of the Berlin Wall 1961 and the separation of Germany the future of the hill was dead. Because of the position in the death zone of the border of the GDR it couldn’t be used anymore, was dilapidating over the years and was finally broken down in the 1970’s.

Falsches Foto

Das erste Foto zeigt leider nicht die Schneise, dort wo die Eckerlochschanze mal stand. Dazu muss mann ins Bild geguckt rechts abbiegen, den Eckerlochstieg ca. 100 Meter bergauf und dann zur linken Hand. Ich habe ein Foto, kann es hier aber nicht hochladen.

an R. Rothe: Das war die sogenannte "Pionierschanze". War nur für Kinder und Jugendliche und es kamen auch keine erheblichen Weiten zu Stande. Kann mich sogar noch erinnern, als dort zu DDR-Zeiten mal ein Wettbewerb stattfand (meine Oma hatte seinerzeit in Schierke gewohnt). Dabei durften sogar Teilnehmer aus dem gesamten Ostharz hin (obwohl Grenzgebiet).

In Schierke gab es noch eine weitere Sprungschanze, hinter dem jetzigen Parkhaus kann man noch die Schneise erkennen und auch noch Halterungen für den Anlaufturm im oberen Teil finden. Es könnte eine K-30 Schanze gewesen sein.

Eckerlochschanze , an den Tagen -6 - 8 Oktober haben wir Wernigeröder Skispringer den Kampf-richterturm gerettet in dem wir ihn abgerissen haben und im Zwölfmorgental wieder aufgebaut haben . Wo er heute noch in einem guten Zustand seinen Dienst versieht . Ich gehörte auch dazu und an dem Wochenende auch 2 Skisportler in den Westen abhauten . M. Frintert
