2008-11-12: Works at Vikersund running on schedule

Since August the construction works on former HS 100 ski jumping hill at Vikersund, which is converted into HS 117 large hill, have been running. The shaping of the profile was already done, the landing hill even covered with artificial snow and now cooling pipes for the inrun trail are installed. The new multipurpose building shall also be completed on time for the season final of Nordic Combined im march 2009.

2008-11-01: Holmenkollen becomes more and more expensive

Since two weeks the deconstruction of Holmenkollen ski jump at Oslo has been running and now the construction costs for the complete recreation of the winter sports facility were again highered. The whole building project for WSC 2011, including Holmenkollen K117, Midtstubakken K95 and smaller jumps with plastic covering, as well as cross-country facilities, shall now even cost 1.2 billion crones (140m Euros).

2008-10-16: Dismounting of inrun tower
of Holmenkollen has started

Today on 16:30 the picewise dismantling of the legendary inrun tower of the landmark of Oslo has started. Since the conversion works around the skiing stadium had already begun in September, for example parts of spectator stands will be reused in Vikersund, now the steal-made inrun loses ground, too. First the “diamond”-called warming-up house was removed today.

2008-10-16: Plastic hill opening at Garmisch-Partenkirchen

On up-coming Sunday, 2008-10-19, a jumping hill festival is taking place at the ski stadium of Partenkirchen from 13 pm on in order to inaugurate the new plastic covering of Olympiaschanze K125. Among others some women and men of the German national ski jumping teams are participating.

 

 

 

 

 

2008-08-31: Construction of Malinka at Wisła (POL) soon completed

After many delays and now three and a half years of construction time the new Malinka 120 meter ski jump at Wisła, the hometown of Poland’s showcase jumper Adam Małysz, will soon be completed. The opening of the World Cup suitable plastic covered jump with multifunctional stands is planned for September 27.

 

 

 

 

2008-08-06: Ski jump constructions at Garmisch
and
Bad Freienwalde (both GER)

After the new Olympic Ski Jump HS 140 at Garmisch-Partenkirchen was already inaugurated in last December, now the inrun covering was completed and also the landing hill was finished with plastic mattings.

At Bad Freienwalde the construction of a new K60 jump at Papengrund is nearly completed, the opening of the hill will take place on August 23.

 

2008-07-27: Fewer jumps in Black Forest in the future

After the Kohlepp-Schanze K58 at Furtwangen had to be removed already in fall 2006, now a reconstruction of the jump definitely won’t take place. Also the Adlerschanze HS 93 at Schönwald, on which even Ladies COC competitions have been hosted until last winter, will be given up. Due to financial reasons in the future larger competition will only be organized on Langenwaldschanze HS 96 at Schonach, which is only some few km away, but has to be modernized soon. In return the dilapidated smaller ski jumps in Upper Valley of Schonach will be given up and young jumpers have to practise on the three youth hills of Schönwald.

 

2008-06-07: 300 German ski jumps in the archive

With Pockau and Schellerhau now there are totally 300 ski jumping hills from Germany listed in the Ski Jumping Hill Archive. Additionally there is an update of Lauterbach (GER).

 

2008-05-29: Vikersund and Val di Fiemme WSC hosts

At the FIS Congress tonight it was announced that after 1977, 1990 and 2000 Nowegian Vikersund is going to organize the Ski Flying WSC for a fourth time in 2012.

The Nordic Ski WSC 2013 was given to Italian Fleims Valley (Val di Fiemme) for a third time after 1991 and 2003.

 

 

 

2008-05-25: Decision about up-coming WSC hosts to be made – Conversion at Vikersund

From Monday on the FIS Congress 2008 is going to take place at Capetown, on Thursday the host of up-coming World Championships will be announced. For Nordic Ski WSC 2013 Falun, Lahti, Oberstdorf, Val die Fiemme and Zakopane are applying. For Ski Flying WSC 2012 for the first time with Harrachov and Vikersund two candidates are competing.

Independent of the placing of Ski Flying WSC, this summer the normal hill ski jump of VIkersund will be converted, the K90 will be enlarged into HS 123.

 

 

2008-04-15: Decision about new Holmenkollen

Yesterday afternoon the definitive plans and schedule for the construction of the new ski jumping hill at Holmenkollen in Oslo for WSC 2011 were presented. All details about the new K117 and Midtstubakken normal hill at a Closer Look.

 

2008-03-08: Preliminary decision about possible flying hill at Finland

Last week the Finish Skiing Association Hiihtoliitto announced to subsidize mainly the maintenance of existing ski jumping facilities at Lahti, Kuopio, Kuusamo, Rovaniemi, Jyväskylä and Vuokatti. If there would still be money to spend, the construction of ski flying hill project Suomo at Kemijärvi is favoured in contrary to the over-roofed Aavasaksa flying facility at Ylitornio, because the realization seems much more realistic and cheaper. > Projects

 

2008-03-08: Schlierenzauer new record holder at Lillehammer

At qualification for yesterday’s Nordic Tournament competition on Lysgårdsbakken at Lillehammer Austria’s Gregor Schlierenzauer set up a new hill record of 143.0 meters on K123 ski jumping hill.

Additionally there is now a photo gallery and no pictures of the jump.

 

2008-02-24: Google Earth section becomes Bird’s Eye View

The Google Earth link collection was supplemented with references on Google Maps and Windows Live Saerch Maps and is now called Bird’s Eye View.

 

2008-02-20: Update of ski flying hill at Oberstdorf (GER)

Just in time for the Ski Flying WSC beginning today with training and qualification Heini-Klopfer-Schanze HS 213 at Oberstdorf, the data and history of the ski jump were over-worked and amended with new and recent photos. Furthermore there is a new photo gallery with pictures of the history of the hill from 1950 until today.

2008-02-15: First competition jumps at Szczyrk (POL)

At today’s training for FIS-Cup at Szczyrk finally the first competition jumps on the new Skalite-HS 106 could be performed. The first hill record was set up by Poland’s Grzegorz Miętus with 100 meters.

At Liberec (CZE) Finland’s Anssi Koivuranta leveld the hill record of 139 mat practising round of Nordic Combined.

 

2008-02-04: New hill records at Otepää (EST) and Villach (AUT)

On Friday David Unterberger jumped on a new distance record of 103.5 m on Villacher Alpenarena during Austrian National Junior Championships. On the new K90 ski jump of Otepää Finland’s Antti Määtä set up a new hill record of 99 m during Championship of Northern Countries on Saturday.

 

 

 

2008-01-17: New K90 at Otepää to be inaugurated

In past two years the Tehvandi sports centre at Estonian Otepää including a K70 ski jumping hill was amended by a new plastic covered K90 ski jump, which will be inaugurated tomorrow night.

2008-01-16: 200 Norwegian jumps inside the archive

With three new ski jumps at Fyllingsdalen, Nøtterøy and Sauherad, where was a duell for the very first 100 meter jump with Planica in 1936, there are now exactly 200 bakken from the home country of ski jumping listed in the archive.

 

2008-01-14: New ski jump at Szczyrk to be inspected

After there had been a a big question about the hosting of Junior WSC at Polish Szczyrk in February for a long time, the date from 3rd to 10th February has already been fixed by the FIS last week. Tomorrow the nearly completed Skalite ski jump will now be homologated and the Hill Size of K95 determined on 108 m. The construction of the jump had only begun in late summer 2007.

2008-01-08: First jumps on the Olympic hills of Whistler (CAN)

Last week the first competitions on both new Olympic ski jumping hills for Vancouver 2010 were hosted in the line with Canadian national championships. On HS 140 Stefan Read set a first record of 133 meters. US-American Lindsey Van jumped 105.5 m on HS 106 and clearly emphasized the ladies’ ambitions of being allowed to take part in Olympic Winter Games, too.

 

2008-01-06: Schlierenzauer jumps record at Bischofshofen

During the qualification for yesterday’s Four Hills Tournament replacement competition for Innsbruck at Bischofshofen Gregor Schlierenzauer set up a new hill record of 145 meters.

 

2008-01-01: Schlierenzauer record holder at Garmisch-Partenkirchen

Austria’s Gregor Schlierenzauer is he winner of today’s New Year’s Competition at Garmisch-Partenkirchen and in second round he even set up a new hill record of 141 meters on new-constructed Olympiaschanze. Already in the first round Janne Ahonen had jumped on 139 meters.

 

2007-12-01: Schlierenzauer jumps new hill record at Kuusamo

At today’s individual World Cup competiton on Ruka-HS 142 Austria’s Gregor Schlierenzauer improved the five year old hill record of Sigurd Pettersen by one meter on 147.0 m.

 

 

2007-12-01: 5 years Ski Jumping Hill Archive

Today before 5 years the Ski Jumping Hill Archive opened its gates for the very first time. What has started in 2002 with not much more than the ski jumps represented in World Cup, includes now data, photos and background information to nearly 1100 bakken all over the world. Furthermore there are news from the wolrd of ski jumps and interesting categories just as “Closer Look”, “Google Earth” or “Projects”. At this point a sincere thank-you to all supporters of the website and, of course, to the steadily increasing number of visitors!

For the anniversary the Olympiaschanze at Garmisch-Partenkirchen was over-worked and a special page with photos and data of the old jump created.

 

 

2007-11-28: Ski jump tower of Garmisch set up

Due to problems with hydraulic pumps the positioning of the new inrun tower of around 14 m. € expensive new K125 ski jump of Garmisch overrun its time and took from yesterday afternoon until tonight, but now the around 550 tons heavy steal- construction was come to its final position 62 meters above ground.

2007-11-13: Training at Pragelato (ITA) soon possible

After the preparation of Olympic ski jumping hill at Pragelato had already begun with the cold snap in late October, from up-coming Saturday on the K95 ski jump will be ready for ski jumping. If meteo conditions stay good, the large hill will also be prepared for practising jumps until next week.

2007-10-24: Ski jump construction at Whistler far proceeded

Meanwhile both Olympic ski jumping hills for the Games at Vancouver 2010 in Whistler (K125 & K98) are only short before completing. The photo gallery includes many new photos made during FIS homologation some days ago.

 

2007-10-22: New hill record at Oberstdorf

Last Saturday during Austrian Championships Gregor Schlierenzauer set up a new hill record of 145.5 meters on Schattenbergschanze in Oberstdorf.

 

2007-09-25: New category Projects

Now there is a new category called “Projects” included in the Ski Jumping Hill Archive, which gives a short overview over all recently running works on ski jumping hills, further constructions and future projects.
