Especially for the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver 2010 120 km north of Vancouver Whistler Olympic Park was built at Madeley Creek basin at Callaghan Valley. Beside the two ski jumping hills the biathlon and the cross-country stadiums are part of this Nordic centre, too. Works on the two K125 and K95 jumping hills already had started in April 2004 and on 2007-12-15 the official opening could take place. Then in March 2008 the first ski jumping COC was hosted and in January 2009 the Pre-Olympic trial World Cup competitions took place. At the Olympic Winter Games in 2010 Simon Ammann won both gold medals in the individual competitions, while Austria claimed the team title.
The total costs for Whistler Olympic Park were 120m $, therewith all 3 ski arenas (ski jumping, cross-country, biathlon) had a capacity of 12,000 spectators. Both Olympic hills are only jumpable in winter time and are hardly used after the Olympic Games. Additionally there was a small temporary junior jumping hill in winter.
In order to maintain the heritage of Olympic Games three plastic covered junior jumps K40, K20, K10 shall be build as part of "Squamish Legacy Sports Park". But also the Olympic hills shall be preserved and next the Canadian Nationals and international training camps are planned for end of March 2012.
