History:
The first ski jumping hill at Absam was built up by German soldiers in the war years. After World War II the Melanser Schanze dilapidated, until Willfried Vettori decided in 1969 to rebuilt the ski jump for his sons (Ernst and Günter Vettori). Until 1980’s this ski jumping hill had been used very frequently, but no more today. Ideas to make the jump again ready for jumping were not realized, because mainly snowboarders would use it for jumping. In 2005 the smaller jump was destroyed by teenagers, but nevertheless the former takeoff of K28 and the rest of the larger hill can still be seen, as well as the inrun of K18 hill. The last competition took place in middle 1980’s, winner was Christoph Bieler who is today world-class Nordic combined athlete.
