History:

The very first snow jumping hill at Gaisberg above Salzburg was set up at Rossfeld, before the Zistelschanze at Mitteregg was constructed in 1923. At the opening only 17 year old Karl Strahal stood the record distance of 31 m. The last Zistel competition before World War II was hosted on 1938-02-06, among others even world record holder Josef “Bubi” Bradl starting for Salzburg and Hans Hauser participated.
After the war the tradition of ski jumping at Mitteregg revived already on 1946-03-03, three years later even 10,000 spectators watched the Zistel-Springen with a new hill record by Paul Ausserleitner. There even shall have been the plan to enlarge the ski jumping hill in order to host the fourth competition of Four Hills Tournament, but these plans were disclaimed by the landlord of Mitteregg Alp and so this competition was finally given to Bischofshofen. Therewith the end of ski jumping tradition of Zistel competition had come and from mid 1950’s on the ski jumping hill has no more been used.
