The Bilgerischanze was named after Major Georg Bilgeri (1873-1934) who was a ski pioneer at Gastein which came to Bad Hofgastein in 1920 and built up this ski jumping hill only short time later. With the Epiphany competition and the first jump over 40 m at all in 1922 the town became famous. As one can see on the photos, this jumping hill was one of the at that time very popular three-time jumping facilities, on which three jumpers one beside the other could pass the bakken at the same time. Therewith Gastein became a very well-known winter sports facility, which it has been until today, although Bilgeri-Schanze is no longer existing. In 2006 another alpine down hill run shall be prepared over the former landing hill.
