History:

The "Nordic Ski Jumping Center Zermatt Valley" with in 1976 completed Täschbergschanze and one year later finished Mattertalschanze was constructed by the Swiss Ski Association with support of Täsch municipality.
In the 1980's the jumps in Oberwallis was used frequently, because of the ski jumping boom in Switzerland. In 1985 even the Nordic Junior World Championships took place there, Swiss Championsips and GDR national team training champs were hosted there as well. But since the last competition in 1991 the jumps have been depraving, as the dilapidated takeoff on the photo proves.
If the Olympic Winter Games 2002 were hosted by Sion instead of Salt Lake City, the ski jumping disciplines would be given to Täsch and the jumps would have been reconstructed. With the ski jumping enthusiasm after the great success of Simon Ammann there were plans of renewing the jumps.
